You may have seen me in recurveemma videos and funny pictures before. I figured I would start a page since Emma is getting questions about compound shooting and I have decided to start competing myself. I am a compound shooter from way back. I started shooting with a Bear recurve in 1978 when I was 13. I updated to a Bear White Tail Hunter in the 80’s and have been shooting compound ever since.
I have been hunting and trapping since I was 8. Growing up in a super rural town in the hills of Virginia there was little else to do. I have been hunting in Canada and several states here over the years. I shot competitive 3D archery from 1990 to 1994.
I did a 4 year tour in the U.S. Army from 1984 to 1988. I enlisted in the Army for a second time in 2003 and honorably discharged in 2009. During my second enlistment I deployed to Afghanistan with The Special Operations Command and was injured in combat. I am now classified with the Veteran Administration as disabled as a result of multiple injuries.
I will be blogging here to answer questions about compound shooting and about returning to the compound archery competitive environment with disabilities. Looking forward to hearing from you here or on Twitter.
