So much going on the last couple of weeks! I know that things are about to get super crazy so I wanted to make sure to post the past two events since I missed doing that do to traveling!
At JOAD Nationals in Snellville, GA I was glad to be there because I got to meet new people. The first day I was so excited to shoot; I was ready and pumped up. I found myself doing the right things and going through my process and in the correct timing more than previous shoots. I was able to self-coach as well. Both days this happened and I was proud of myself for reaching this point. I didn’t shoot the highest score at this location (I think I was second) but I had so much fun!
At State Indoor/NFAA Sectionals in Gainesville, FL I was excited to go shoot with my team and meat more people! As I was shooting I realized I was going to fast and I had to slow down. When I did, I shot very well. I met new people and had a lot of fun! Guess what? I also broke 1000! FINALLY MY SCORE IS GOING BACK UP AFTER BEING BROKEN DOWN LAST YEAR! It was only by five points but STILL, it made me really happy.
I was going into this Matchplay Shooter of the Year tournament mostly not confident because I hadn’t gotten to practice much since I was moving. Once I started shooting, I consistently shot high above the target every time. My dad came to the line and said “Hey, its 50m not 60m!” I had my sight on the wrong mark! Good thing I was still on practice rounds.
Once I started the scoring round, it started pouring down rain. Apparently this is no big deal in Florida if there is no lightning so everyone just shoots through it. I thought it would slow down but it never really did. It rained the entire tournament except for the last end and during matchplay. I looked like I had walked out of the shower and had to wring water out of everything constantly.
Throughout the tournament I shot decent for being soaked and no practice for a week. After the tournament, I shot well and in the matchplay round I ended up with a Bronze medal. YAY! My first Florida medal!
Shout out to Coach Scott! Was this post good enough for you? Haha 🙂
Shout out to the most awesome JDT coach @archerwatson and as you can see by the blog, I am SUPER EXCITED about getting to work with her for a week.
Mom was laughing so hard when she was making this video that she started crying. I wasn’t trying to be funny really but I did have her put a gag reel at the back of some of the things she cut out. I guess next time, I need to write a script but HEY I am only 12!
I hope you like it.
I have more than one funny picture this week so we will start with this one above. Her name is Masa and she is my oldest girl cat. My sister got to visit a few days over the holiday and she brought ties that she forced her cats to wear. While Masa does look pretty cranky, she is like Grumpy Cat and that is her every day face. She is old and mostly angry at other animals in the house everyday. She wants to be left alone and sit in her dads lap every day, period.
Part of what we did this weekend involved learning to throw knifes. YES REALLY. 🙂 I know it sounds crazy but my dad is really good with different kinds of weapons and mom got him a target for knifes and some different kinds of throwing knifes to learn because its something he always wanted to do. We didn’t know it at the time but my sister also had bought him some Batarangs so of course, I had to try those:
That was pretty funny. There was lots of laughing and lots of mom worrying which also made us laugh. What you don’t see is all the blankets and cardboard around to protect us and the knifes when we through them. It really was safe and NO I didn’t throw it at my archery target you see in the picture with me. Different kind of target needed!
There were more posted to my Tumblr of cats in ties and knife throwing if you want to see them.
I hope every one had a happy NEW YEAR!
Hey guys! Mom had to do another video project for class so we decided to try to break down the shot cycle for those of you who have been asking. Hopefully you find something useful in it and can use it when practicing your band work or shooting, just rewind as many times as you need to (that’s the great thing about YouTube!).
Unfortunately for me, my coach returned from a new NTS module where the shot cycle has been further refined so that means learning the changes and new form again. Once I get back from JDT camp in January and have a chance to understand where those subtle changes would affect the video, I will post an update to it for you.
This is my funny picture because, well, LOOK AT HOW TINY I WAS!
It is just really weird because it seems like forever ago that I got that first bow from my step-dad. It probably would have been way easier on my parents if they HAD NOT let me have a bow because now its much more complicated and expensive, but I am so glad they did. I can’t imagine ever having a day when I didn’t pick up a bow to shoot!
This Saturday I went to a Halloween party with fellow JOAD archers at our club. There were games, food and fun. I dressed up as the girl from the Gangnam style and I got a friend to dress up as Psy. We were dancing the whole night, it was really fun. After the costume contest we are told to go to the front of the room and dance. It was unexpected but we did it anyway. Then everybody went crazy and started dancing then we danced the night away.
This week I decided to do a video about fletching my arrows. Everyone had a job to do and we planned it out really well. What we didn’t plan on is for some reason, everyone would be giggling and the animals would be going nuts. There was virtually nothing without an animal up in the camera or giggling. Mom still put together a video but there was almost as much for the gag reel as the regular stuff but even in it, there was some things that couldn’t be cut out.
Hopefully you do get something out of it. If not, at least remember, family’s should be having fun!
The materials list for the video is here:
Bitzenberger Fletching Jig with Straight Clamp
Gold Tip Ultralight Entrada 600 shaft
AAE Elite Vanes 1.75”
Bohning Fletch-Tite Platinum Glue
This week’s funny picture isn’t mine but its SOOOOOO funny! Right now my favorite cat site is Grumpy Cat. She is sweet and cute and you can get t-shirts! When you look at that face, how can you not laugh? And then you go “awwwww” and want to pet her! She has some cute videos too.
Hey guys! I got several questions about archery from Tumblr and Twitter this past week so I decided to answer them in a video blog. I learned a lot and mom learned a lot about video taping and editing and we think it’s better than the first one we did. WOOT!
BONUS: I asked mom to add the goofy stuff to the end for a gag reel. Enjoy!
